Andrew from London |
Not much to talk about this week.
Kind of the lull before the storm of the next two months.
Next week Andrew comes in from London. He's here for 10 days. Gonna show him around Austin, and hopefully photograph him. He's a cutie for sure.
He comes in on the 10th and leaves on the 20th. I head out for Costa Rica on the 21st. Bright and early that Friday morning. Kitty! will be staying at the spa, another hidden cost to the trip. Ugh.
I will meet Bill and two of his friends in San Jose. We have to stay one night there, cuz our flight gets in too late to take the wee little plane over the mountains to Quepos.
I was hoping to have guys lined up to shoot. I photographed Eleazar last time, and we have emailed a handful of times, and talked about setting up some guys. He's been traveling a lot these last couple months, so I think I keep missing him.
I guess we will be on a man hunt again. I really want to photograph at least three guys this time, though I guess I will be happy if I can score one. Wish me luck with the Ticos.
Halloween came and went this week.
I pretty much blew it off.
Wasn't in the mood to be social, and didn't have any prep time to do a costume with all my traveling weekends.
Everyone was kind of dragging this year, so I don't fell too bad.
We had only three contestants in our staff office party, and since Halloween was on a Friday, when most people aren't even in the office, our numbers were even lower than normal.
Kristin came as a Quilting Bee, and her dog came as a Spelling Bee. Very punny Kristin.
Mighty fine quilt you've been working on too!
Jim did a scary scarecrow- definitely a costume after my own black heart
Elaine came as the East Texas Woman she COULD have become, which looks surprisingly like a woman from a Far Side cartoon. Pat came as himself…30 years ago.
Friday night I stayed in, and handed out candy to greedy little children.
Jonatan came by with some new bat sculptures. BCI bought 10 of them, and we are gonna sell them for Christmas. If you're interested in buying one, go NOW to our site and nab one before they are gone!
Saturday I worked on Barbara's new AustinBatHospital.com site. I REALLY have kept it simple, cuz its all done for free (I paid the years hosting for her and domain reg.)
Go check it out. Barbara is SO excited by it. I'm kind of..eh..its ok. It will work.
We still have a lot to add to it. If you've ever felt the need to make a donation to an animal rehabber, here's your chance!
We plan on having a few items for sale. Barbara's book on bat rehab, the movie we did, and few other thingies.
I got her setup on PayPal, so go slip her a little dinero..she will be shocked and amazed!
Also been reworking BillEvans.com site. It still needs some tweaks, but we scaled down from doing a total site overhaul. He didn't need it, and I have been working 18 hour days again.
I took some time off from those projects to go blow some leaves. Can you SEE how many leaves there are and what is STILL up on the trees. I will have to do this five more times before they all drop. Eight bags of leaves and counting!
I also went for a bike ride! It's been so nice out. I think it has been in the 80's all week. So I DID do sumfin fun!
Finally went to the grocery store. Haven't been since..um…I dunno. It's gotta be a month now.
197.89 bucks! And of course, nothing to eat at all. It's all prescriptions, heartburn pills, and toiletries. Ok, so there is some food in there, but it won't last..I know it won't!
While at the grocery store I got a Flu shot. Wonder if I will get the Flu now!
It was a very efficient trip to the grocery store.
I started working on a postcard that I want to do. I want one for handing out to guys that will show a better sample of my work. David is giving me design advice, and I am so having trouble limiting it to just a handful of pics. Hopefully he can help me narrow it down.
Once side with have one big image on it..I think the one of Alex crouching. I'm so obsessed with Alex's images I may seek therapy.
I'm gonna order them from vistaprints.com. They did a really good job on my business cards, and they have these oversized postcards that are 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Not really a mail able size, but I want something that will make the photos have some impact at a larger size.
I also want to revamp the BryanOckert.com site to include more recent stuff, and be a little less geared for advertising, and more like a real portfolio.
Maybe I can do that while in Costa Rica?
Speaking of site overhauls.
I had a handful of you write me last week about parts of the site you visit. The letters pretty much reflect the traffic reports.
Come January, I am trimming back. Bio4ms is going mostly behind closed doors, with only a much smaller free sampling of 8-16 images. Sorry!
Most columns will go on Hiatus until I see how I feel. I need more energy here.
There were a couple new site updates this month. Noah went online in both Bio4ms and Members Only and with a slightly re-vamped Bio4ms area. Choons got updated, and Jeff's got some amazing wallpapers up. Jock…well..couldn't find anyone. But will keep at it.
One last THING! I update the Shout Column..and there is a cool letter from my friend Fred about a window display in London!
Go check it, and other reader musings!
Gotta run. Batteries dying on the ole laptop!
