David from August 2003 Bio4ms.

As expected, the journal entry is low on photos and high on movie reviews.

With the Austin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in full swing, I spent most of my free time racing over to the Arbor Regal cinema.

But first I got a very pleasant surprise. Remember David from San Diego? He FINALLY moved here. We had talked briefly the last time he was here to look for an apartment or house. At the time, the move was months away, and David sounded very relaxed and cavalier about the upcoming move.

He was planning on moving here in September, and said he was going to list his house the last week in August. He assured me that the house would sell quick enough (and I believed him- gorgeous house and the market is rabid) and that he would just pack up and head our way.

It all seemed so simple, and I REALLY want him to come live here, but didn't want to jinx it by calling and asking how it was going.

Sure enough, he called me up and said he was had moved into his apartment (well, no furniture had arrived yet) and that he was looking for social activities and new friends.

David is super friendly and had a small circle of close friends, and a larger circle of friends back in San Diego. I think the bulk of those friends came from him participating in the Gay Men's Chorus. David really mixes well, and I love going places with him cuz he fits right in to any situation.

So I plan on spending more time with him for sure, hopefully before he settles into a new crowd of friends. I tend to lose track of friends cuz I end up working so much.

I had two tickets to go see Naked Fame on Wednesday. My roommate Bill had planned on going with me, but he got a new project and was planning on working late, so it really was serendipitous.

I swooped down to his new temporary apartment right down by Town Lake. Leave it to David to find THE neighborhood and prime location! His apartment complex is pretty cool. I visited with Shelby, his cwazy dog. She welcomed me by taking a little chunk of flesh out of my finger as I fed her a treat. Ouch! She's got bad aim!

David has a new Mini Cooper too. WOW! It's so cool. I was longing for its small size and economy, especially since it costs me fifty bucks to fill up my tank every week. Ugh.

Before we drove up to the Arbor Theatre, we went over to Schlotsky's and had a nice dinner on their outdoor patio. David had lots of questions as to Where he was, still trying to get his bearings.

Naked Fame
That night we watched a movie about Colton Ford, a famous porn star who is trying to break out of his porn mold and make it as a star. It was in documentary format, and it was pretty good.

The movie really kinda freaked me. I saw parts of the porn industry that I don't have to deal with living here in sheltered little Austin.

I really think this movie was misnamed. Should have been called “Porn Free” as both Colton and his partner Blake Harper (also a top porn star with over 60 films under his..er..belt) try to leave the porn industry behind them.

They get saddled with an annoying and living stereotype manager named Kyle. Someone they should have wiped from the bottom of their shoe after their first music meeting.

Colton really DOES have an excellent voice. He does have a good idea too. Break into the dance music field. Big problem is he is trying to break from his porn roots but at the same time having his promo track with lyrics something like “Get in my sling, get on your knees, suck my unit now” or something like that.

All the production people would balk at promoting such a song, realizing that the lyrics would make the song incredibly narrow for airplay.

It sounded like he did some voice work on another song, and hopefully he can make the transition…and find better management. He's got a talent. He just needs a beak and a slightly modified direction.

I was saddened to get the glimpse of the porn industry. Everyone hated their jobs, hated their fame. Lots of seedy characters. All of which I have not run in to at all. I think I have been very sheltered and lucky with the experiences I have had.

Re-cable of house
I have had tons of Internet connection problems, losing connections for up to 24 hours. Major pain. I finally got someone out to cable the house so the modem is the only thing on the main cable line. Apparently the owner of the house had an electrician wire the house, and the have about 8 splitters throughout the house (there are two cable ports in every room). So the signal was really week, despite the booster thingy I had to have installed when I got here.

A very cute service man finally came over and wrapped a cable completely around the outside of the house. Not attractive, but at this point, I just want a steady connection.

Hopefully that will be the end of my Internet blackouts.

Straight Jacket
We were really pleased when they announced that the Sneak movie was “Straight Jacket”, a new movie by Richard Day, the director of Girls will be Girls. I got online right away to get the tickets.

The movie takes place in the 1950's and has heavy Rock Hudson overtones. It's the story of a famous sexy “straight” actor who is flamboyantly gay behind the scenes, getting himself into all kind of awkward predicaments. He is saved by his manager who always makes things right. He ends up having to marry an innocent girl to be his cover. While trying to get the part of Ben Hur, he falls in love with another guy. Add to the mix the McCarthy Commie Hunt, and it made for some hilarious moments.

Jack Plotnick is in this movie as well (Evie from GWBG), and there are a few familiar faces from that movie. Jack does an awesome job as always, playing another unlikable but endearing character.

I definitely like Girls will be Girls better, but it had the audience laughing heartily, so I am thinking maybe the audience wasn't as split as they were on GWBG…I was so surprised to find so many other people who couldn't stand the movie.

Sorry, no picture for My Porn Star. Couldn't find one that wasn't too disturbing. So I am inserting this slightly less distrubing picture of me showing how to eat popcorn when your hands are full

My Porn Star
I accidentally ordered the tickets to this movie. Originally I thought this was the movie with Colton Ford that I talked about earlier. I realized a couple days later that I had ordered the wrong ones. I never looked at what My Porn Star was about.

We got to the theatre and I pulled out the program to read the description. UGH! Shorts! I have not really cared for the short movies, and was trying to avoid them.

I was hoping they would be good, but my hope soon gave way as terrible acting ensued.

There was one short called Booth, which was a somewhat artistic filming of a guy in a windowed room dancing, taking of his clothes, jacking off, blowing his load, and then a quick pan to a customer shooting his load while he sits in his Booth grabbing the guys dick.

Be sure to share your popcorn with your friends too!

We couldn't for the life us figure out how this could be considered “Cinema” It was just flat out porn. Of course I'm not one to cast stones when it comes to porn, but this just didn't fit with the theme of the film festival.

The next two shorts were even worse. Some guy had illicitly and covertly filmed hot young boys and men working. It was like watching a montage of some perverts sex fantasy..and damn..it was Blair Witch photography….as if he was filming these guys from a hidden camera in his gym bag. One minute of this montgage filmed nicely MIGHT have had a good message- look at all the beauty around us. But 12 minutes of these two films with the shaky quality and that the shooting had occurred over years seemed downright perverted. It was creepy.

Anyway, I think Shorts are really a crap shoot, and I feel sorry for Scott having to find good quality shorts. If these were the best, I hate to imagine what the losers were.

Pumping Velvet
This movie will get you talking. It is a self produced documentary of a famous music video editor named Dustin Robertson.

This movie has, without a doubt, the best collection of “gay moments” in tv and film, as Dustin shows all media that seeped into his brain as he grew up.

Dustin is not really likeable, and he makes no apologize for it. He apparently had a very abusive school life growing up. Got mixed up in drugs, then later become addicted to body building and all it's drugs.

I dunno. I really like this video, but at the same time it's frustrating on so many levels. He makes two huge mistakes. One, not editing himself, something he should know how to do. 7-8 minutes of him dancing on stage was too much. Yeah. We get it. Enough already.

The second was a video montage of violence against gays in movies, followed by a piece on the horror of the Mathew Sheppard incident, followed by an expose on Emenim and how he hates faggots, Madonna endorsing this statement. He “fantasizes” stalking Emenim and literally blows his brains out against a wall. Two people in the audience clapped. It was sickening.

Now, I could understand him saying “Here are the images of gays getting bashed daily, and here is a wildly successful person who is making a career out of hating gays, and it just makes me feel like killing him, but that would be so hypocritical.” He has razor sharp astuteness when it comes to observing life around him, but clearly blows it with this hypocrisy by doing exactly what he hates the rest of the world for doing.

This is an excellent piece of work. Nothing out there like it. It sure will get you talking and thinking.

But it sure makes you realize there are some fucked up people out there.

Gregg and Jamie Visit
Current month's model, Gregg was visiting this weekend for the Perfect Day circuit party. He brought his hunky boyfriend Jamie. We went to dinner a couple nights but for the most part, they were at the festivities or curled up in bed recovering from the events.

Manhunt.net trade
You all are sooooo good at letting me know when a site is using my images without permission.

So I want to let everyone know that I traded a dozen or so images with Manhunt.net, a really cool up and coming cruising site, in exchange for some banner adverts. I've not had a lot of luck with banner adverts, but I gotta find some way to convert visitors to members.

If you see some of my pics with Manhunt.net emblazoned on them, they do have permission!

evolved_metal.jpg

EvolvedMetal.com
I finished the first round of Jonatan's new EvolvedMetal.com site. Many of you have asked where you could find the metal sculptures you have seen about the house, so now is your chance to buy direct.

I kept the site very simple so that he could do minor updates himself. This month or perhaps next month, there will be an article about Jonatan's work in Unzipped magazine. I bet he gets swamped with requests.

On Thursday night I photographed about 36 more pieces, and there are some REALLY cool stuff about to come online. There is amazing Scorpian that I just gotta buy from him.

Go visit him and make an investment in some crazy cool artwork.

Bat Talk DVD
Someone on the messageboard asked when the Bat Talk DVD that I help Barbara produce was going to be available.

Here I was talking all about it, and it came out last month and never mentioned it.

You can buy the DVD from Bat World Sanctuary.

Ok, so its not National Geographic quality. Barbara sat for over a year with her night vision camera capturing the sounds. But after we released the DVD, National Geo, Discovery, and a ton of linguistic scientist were flooding Barbara for requests to meet with her. She did tons of media for it.

The science community was floored.

You, however, the non-scientist, might not be floored. Yes it is presented in a format that everyday people will enjoy, much like watching a discovery science show. But it is talking a lot about some research.

If you really want to support conservation, or just want to see my name as “producer” of something, then order it. Your money will go right to care for animal conservation. Many of you will find it educational, but it's not Lord of the Rings…so I don't want anyone ordering it and being all disappointed.

I prolly just killed any desire to buy the thing, but go buy it anyway!

Barbara loves here gay boy fans big time, and wants me to say hi to you all!
