Home Sweet Home

Ok, this one is gonna be real quick. If you were watchin' the cam at all this week, sent me mail, or tried to contact me you likely found that I was up to my eyeballs in moving.

I closed on the house on Wednesday with no trauma or stress- thanks to both Michael Nash and Bill Evans. They took care of everything, and I basically showed up with a photo ID and a cashier's check.

It's Sunday, about 11:30am and I just finished getting the photos ready. Falling behind already. I have oodles more to do, including getting some design work done, need to put the extra bedroom and bathroom together, and if I am lucky, maybe get a short workout in. Yeah right!

So here we go!

House Closing

move10.jpg

Here I am closing on the house, completely depleting my savings account. Like I said above, everything went very smoothly. The only hitch was the title company didn't calculate the taxes correctly on the house, so my payment is about $140 less a month, but I have to make sure that I have that money at the end of the year. Next year they will get the taxes correct, but for now, I have to make sure I save that money.

Save money?!?!?

Moving the Loot

move1.jpg

Well, here is my life all packed up in boxes. There was actually quite a bit more than I expected- isn't that always the case? I was surprised at how much crap I DID have tucked away in closets. I even debated getting a small U-haul to make things easier, but I ended up waiting in a empty house all afternoon on Wednesday for Time Warner to show up and install the cable and net access. We DO have priorities! Getting the net connection back up for uninterrupted services was at the top of my list. (I did make that time useful: taking down doors, patching the fence, changing the hideous light fixture etc.)

So Time Warner finished up at about 6pm and I didn't have time to go get the rental truck. We had to resort back to plan A, and caravan everything in everyone's cars and trucks. We made two runs, so it wasn't TOO bad.

Like I said, the servers and computers were top priority. Here's my little workstation all disassembled, waiting for it's new home.

move6.jpg

Why are these boys so happy? They've been dupped into helping me move. The fools! I can't believe they are still smiling even though we had already done the first caravan move. What troopers they are!

move8.jpg

Awwww....Bill and Kevin. This isn't Bill's first time to move me. I helped him move a many months back, but now I think I am in the hole by one move.

I set the move time for 8pm. I know, sounds late, but it has been so hot, that I didn't think we could bear to move in the high heat. As it was, we all did sweat quite a bit, but not too bad over all.

move9.jpg

Here are my eight heros! If it wasn't for them, I would have had to spend money on a moving truck and other items, so they really did save the day!

move11.jpg

I am unpacking my Madonna Phallic Cone Breast Lamps. Sadly, one of them didn't survive the move. They were the only casualty. The big ass 36 inch TV was hard to move...that thing weighs about 400 pounds! Takes three to four people to move it. But it arrived safely! Phew!

move12.jpg

Getting the bed over was also a something I wanted to get done the first night. I wanted to spend the first night of ownership in the new pad. Hmmm...the bed seems a little crowded!

Wake Up!

Have you fallen asleep yet? Well wake up! Here is another set of pics in my voyeur series. This boy lives in the building next to mine, and I am telling you he has about the most perfect body. Sorry, no face pics or front torso which are equally awesome, but you back afficionados will be happy.

Maybe I will go back and see if I can get some more of him. Would have loved to ask to do a shoot with him, but he is big time scary straight! Grrrrr!

What Lies Beneath

wlb-poster.jpg

Believe it or not, Vic, Jason, Joel and I went out for a late movie on Thursday night. I was pretty exhuasted for the 9:55 pm showing, but I totally needed to get away from the house. I would have worked on it until I fell over.

Ok, so Michelle Pfieffer is not my favorite. I swear she went to school at the "Acting School of Nausea" She always seems so sickly and about to hurl...especially in Dangerous Liasons. And she seemed a bit the same in this one, but I still enjoyed the movie. Basically she was distant and vacuous, but perhaps the character she was playing was supposed to be like that, so I will over look it.

Not sure the market can handle yet another vengeful ghost story, and some of the plot seems lifted from 6th Sense and Stir of Echos, but I think it stands on it's own. They relied heavily and somewhat annoyingly on the sudden loud noise tactic to startle the audience, which worked, but it did become tiresome. I did squirm in my seat, so I guess it was worth it and was basically fun.

Best part, was all the great Hitchcockian angles!

Getting Setup

move13.jpg

Saturday, my goal was to get some of the yard work taken care of. I ordered all the materials for the new fence, but have decided to put it off until maybe this fall. After trimming all the bushes, getting rid of the dead trees and branches, mowing and weed eating, I decided it was just gonna be too hot (and expensive) to do the fence right now.

I patched the holes in the fence, and the dogs should be just fine. It looks tacky, but "it will have to do."

move14.jpg

We also went over to Vic's and got some of his stuff. I was totally not digging the house on Saturday. I was discouraged by not having even the basics of having a house. The main living room was basically empty, and we spent most of the week eating off the floor. I have been eating in my bedroom at my desk for the last 6 months, but I didn't feel like I needed to do that anymore. I really needed a table. Where would my parent's eat when they get here in two weeks?

So we went over to Vic's and got his couch, coffee table and lamps. We also setup his bed in the extra bedroom as a guest bed. My parents will just have to share a double bed, but the couch has a bed in it too, so my dad can snore his brains out on it.

Vic totally knocked himself out fixing up the living areas. He added lots of candles and knick-knacks and really made the place seem warm and homey.

move16.jpg

Remember I said the house was stinky? Well, I determined that the stove/oven was leaking gas. I sniffed and sniffed like a petulant old lady until I was certain, and sure enough the stove was the source. This baking/burning device was probably 20 years old, and I wasn't gonna fool with gas leaks.

Discouraged, I took a trip over to Circuit City and got a new one, and they delivered it on Saturday. Talk about service! I put it on their 6 months same as cash plan, and I now have--- CREDIT DEBT! ~bleh!~ I'll get it paid off though, I hate paying interest!

So I guess the expenses begin. We did discover that the quarter sized fridge does work as well as the old washer and dryer they left behind, so I will hold off on getting new ones. The fridge is full already and we havent' even been to the grocery store in two weeks, so that will be a high priority to replace, but it will just have to do.

move17.jpg

I finally got disgusted with dining on the floor, so we headed over to a couple furniture places to find the perfect table. This is such a hard thing for me to find because I don't like traditional stuff but at the same time I don't want tacky euro furniture, which I tend to like.

We ended up at The Furniture Warehouse, this AC-challenged building has some of the best prices on furniture. I scored the table and chairs for $500, which I think is a pretty decent price.

The Roswell inspired table is perfect for dining, alien disections and late night embalming!

Also noticable is the missing yellow wicker overhead lamp. I swapped that out while waiting for Time Warner to arrive. Taaaaacky! It's off center right now, so we will have to move it when we have more time.

Well..that's it..hopefully next week's entry won't be so rushed. Make sure you come back tomorrow for Brian's debut in the Bio4ms and order a new T-shirt when you join the Gallery area!
